✍️ Message: “Mandela Knew the Power of Sport — Now I Do Too”
I’ll be honest:
I never truly saw the value of sport.
Not until I watched my stepson, Wayne, dedicate himself to the game of pool.
I saw what it gave him — focus, identity, purpose.
I watched him earn national colours, and for the first time,
I realised something Mandela had known all along:
“Sport has the power to change the world.”
— Nelson Mandela
He was right.
Sport is more than a game.
It’s a force that unites.
It breaks down barriers.
It builds character.
It creates hope — especially for the youth of our nation.
We’re not just playing for trophies.
We’re fighting for something greater:
A united identity. A shared dream. A future worth believing in.
That’s why we must protect sport — not politicise it.
We must preserve symbols like the Springbok — not erase them.
We must make sure that every child, in every sport,
has the right to dream of wearing green and gold.
Not just in rugby. But in cricket. In netball. In athletics. In every arena.
Because for every Wayne out there,
there’s a young South African waiting to believe in themselves —
and their country.
Let’s give them that chance.
Let Mandela’s dream live on.
Let the children dream again.
